Passato di verdure – Green vegetable soup

They say temperatures here in Chicago are going to drop as much as -26C over the next few days. That’s without counting the wind chill.
Now, I do prefer cold to heat and I am of the “Layer Up and Suck It Up” school of thought, but -26C?!?!… You can find me hiding at home, either on the couch with cup of tea in hand or in the kitchen making a batch of soup, because I don’t really want to eat anything else right now. Maybe a small sandwich on the side. Yes, I like sandwiches with soup. Because I’m greedy.

Braised octopus – Polpo in umido

Octopus

GAH! It’s cold outside and there is a snowstorm coming our way so I am just going to go ahead and leave this piece of sunshine on a plate here for you.
A slow braise that warms the house (and makes it smell DAH-LICIOUS!) and a bowl of food that is better than a hug in one of those giant knit blankets. Ok, maybe they are on the same level. Or maybe not, because the octopus stew also brings memories of meals at the warm Italian seaside so… You know.

Luisella’s Tiramisu

There is a flat on the shores of Lake Garda that has been empty for about 5 years.

It’s only a small place on the top floor of a 3-storey building with 2 bedrooms, an airy living room, a small bathroom and an even smaller kitchen.
There is a balcony overlooking the great deep blue waters of the lake and their crown of snow-topped Alps. A balcony where rabbit was spit-roasted nestled amongst pillows of bacon and rosemary needles and pots of flowers and fresh herbs lined the walls.
There is a cellar that used to be filled with bottles of wine, old books, salamis, tins of homemade olive oil and Lego bricks. There is also a garage spot where a red Alfa Romeo car used to be parked. Continue reading “Luisella’s Tiramisu”
